The Seton Hill men's basketball team closed out its 2015 portion of the schedule by hosting Carlow University on Wednesday afternoon in the McKenna Center. The Griffins used a barrage of late three pointers to come away with a 93-86 home victory. SHu is now 4-7 on the season.
The first ten minutes of the first half were very tightly played with the teams tied at 19 at the halfway point of the first half. SHU was able to build their lead to five points at 17-12 on a
Tyler Bowling lay up but the Celtics went on a 7-2 run to tie the score. SHU led 27-25 with 7:07 to play in the half before the Griffins went on a quick 5-0 run on a basket from
Spencer Casson and a three pointer from
Trevor Blondin to lead 32-25. Two
Kameron Taylor free throws extended the lead to 39-32 with 3:29 left in the half but the Celtics scored 8 of the final 10 points of the half and trailed just 41-40 after one half of play.
The teams remained close over the early part of the second half with the score being tied twice in the first three minutes of the half. A three pointer from Blondin and a layup from Bowling pushed the SHU lead to 55-49 with 14:58 to play in the half. Carlow battled back to take a 59-58 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining. After the Celtics pushed their lead to 64-61, neither team would lead by more than three points until under the five minute mark of the contest. With the game tied at 71, Taylor hit back to back baskets to give SHU a 75-71 lead with just under five minutes to play. Carlow then fought back to take a 80-78 lead with 2:48 left in the half. Thats when the Griffins got hot from behind the arc, draining three straight three pointers.
Brandon Alston hit the first two with the second being a four point play. Blondin closed out the three point barrage and SHU led 88-80 with 1:24 to play. The Celtics cut the lead to four but the Griffins closed out the game at the free throw line.
The Griffins shot 46% from the floor and 45% from three point land in the contest. SHU also outrebounded the Celtics 51-41.
Trevor Blondin led the Griffins with a game high 27 points.
Kameron Taylor finished with a double double of 26 points and 16 rebounds. Taylor also posted 6 assists.
Brandon Alston added 13 points off the bench.
Spencer Casson was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 11 points. He just missed a double double with 9 rebounds. He also added 8 blocks.
Seton Hill will return to action next Sunday when they travel to West Chester for PSAC Crossover action.
