SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -
Kameron Taylor scored a career-high 35 points as Seton Hill University cruised past Slippery Rock University, 87-72, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Morrow Field House in Slippery Rock, Pa.
The win moves Seton Hill to 3-7 (2-5 PSAC). Slippery Rock falls to 7-5 (3-4).
The Griffins got off to a fast start, outscoring Slippery Rock 11-4 in the first five minutes of the contest. SHU eventually pushed the lead out to double-digits (16-6) with 13:35 on the clock in the first half and then to 20 (42-22) at the half. For the half, Seton Hill shot an incredible 62% (15-24) from the floor and 57.1% (4-7) from distance.
In the second half, the Griffins kept the home team at bay until Slippery Rock cut that lead down to just eight (65-57) with 4:10 remaining in the game. However, back-to-back scores by
Spencer Casson pushed the lead back to double-digits (68-57). SRU would get the lead back to single digits (68-59) with 3:07 on the clock only to see Seton Hill go on a 7-0 run to push the lead out to 16 (75-59) en route to the win.
Taylor led the Griffins with 35 points on 11-of-17 shooting, including 1-of-3 from three and 12-of-17 from the free-throw line.Â
Noah Davis scored 19 points on 5-of-10 from the floor.Â
Spencer Casson had 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting and was 6-of-9 from the line. The redshirt sophomore from Presto, Pa. also grabbed 11 rebounds. Slippery Rock was led by Juwan Strothers' 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Jordan Marrow had 13, and Cornelius Brown scored 11 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.
For the game, Seton Hill was an outstanding 55.1% (27-49) from the floor, including a 27.8% from long range. Slippery Rock shot 40.3% (27-67) from the floor and just 14.3% (1-7) from three-point land. The Griffins were 75.7% (28-37) from the free-throw line while Slippery Rock was 73.9% (17-23). SRU led the Points in the Pain category, 50-24, and their bench outscored SHU's bench by a 44--6 margin. The game featured no ties and no lead changes.
