Griffins Defeat Davis & Elkins in Four

Seton Hill hosted Davis & Elkins in their final nonconference matchup of the season on Monday evening.  SHU took the first two sets but the Senators rallied for a third set win before the Griffins closed out the match in the fourth set.  SHU improves to 22-12 overall on the season.

The Griffins took an early 5-2 lead in the first set.  D&E battled back to tie the set at 14 and 17.  The Griffins then went on a 7-0 run on two kills from Jessica Beal, a block and a kill from Cassie Hausfeld and an ace from Mary Baich.  After a service error by the Griffins, Maggie Murray ended the set (25-18) with a kill and SHU took the 1-0 lead.  SHU again took an early lead in the second set.  After a kill from Rachel Satira and a block from Jenna Sassack and Murray, D&E took a timeout trailing 11-6.  SHU then used a 5-0 run to build its lead to 17-8.  SHU was able to take a 2-0 lead after a 25-14 second set win.

The Griffins came out of the gate firing and took a 10-0 lead behind the service game of Mary Baich, who had two aces during the run.  The Senators began to slowly chip into the SHU lead but the Griffins increased their lead to 16-7 after a block from Emily Gilles and Sassack.  The Senators then scored eight of the next nine points to trim the lead to 17-15.  A kill from Hausfeld gave SHU a 22-18 lead.  D&E answered with four straight to even the set at 22.  After a service error, the Senators scored the final three points of the set for a 25-23 win.  In the fourth set, neither team held more than a one point lead until the Senators scored three straight points to take a 12-10 lead.  A block from Sassack and Gilles tied the set at 12.  SHU then went on a 5-0 run to take an 18-14 lead.  Baich had two kills during the run.  D&E then scored four of the next five points to cut the lead to 19-18.  A kill from Baich and a block from Beal and Murray pushed the lead back to 21-18.  After a D&E point, Hausfeld and Gilles had back to back kills to increase the lead to 23-19.  D&E fought back to tie the set at 24 before a Hausfeld kill and D&E error gave the Griffins the set and the match.

Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 15 kills.  Rachel Satira added 9 kills.  Jenna Sassack had a match high 7 blocks.  Jessica Beal added 4 and Satira added 3.  Maggie Murray had 28 assists and Lauren Teed finished with a match high 17 digs.
