The Griffins made the short trip to California (PA) for another important PSAC West battle on Tuesday evening. Cal took all three sets for the 3-0 victory. The Griffins fall to 20-11 overall and 11-7 in PSAC play.
Rachel Satira got the Griffins on the board with a kill on the first point of the match. Cal took a 6-4 lead before SHU ran off three straight points capped off by a block from
Maggie Murray and
Katie Wenson. Cal took a 12-11 lead before Satire tied the set at 12 with a kill. Cal then went on a 5-1 run to take a 17-12 lead forcing the Griffins to take a timeout. A kill from
Mary Baich cut the Cal lead to 22-16. A block from
Cassie Hausfeld and Wenson and kills from Hausfeld and Murray trimmed the lead to 22-19 and forced a Cal U timeout. Another block from Wenson and Murray cut the lead to two at 22-20. A Cal block then a kill from Hausfeld and a Cal hitting error had Cal leading 23-22. Cal answered with a kill and forced a SHU timeout at set point. Cal took the first set by a 25-22 score.
Cal took an early 7-4 lead in the second set. Back to back kills from Satira and Hausfeld gave SHU their first lead of the set at 11-10. Cal stormed back and took an 18-15 lead. Back to back kills from Hausfeld trimmed the lead to 18-17. Cal answered with three straight to take a 21-17 lead. Hausfeld ended the run with a kill.
Lauren Teed followed with an ace and Satira followed with a kill and SHU trailed 21-20. Another Hausfeld kill tied the set at 21. Cal answered back with two straight points to take a 23-21 lead forcing the last SHU timeout of the set. Cal took the second set 25-21.
Kills from
Jessica Beal and Baich gave SHU a 3-2 lead in the third set. Cal used a 7-3 run and took a 9-5 lead. The Vulcans continued to build their lead in the set and led 14-7 forcing a SHU timeout. Cal closed out the match with a 25-14 victory.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 11 kills.
Lauren Teed had a match high 20 digs.
The Griffins will travel to Clarion and Indiana (PA) this weekend for PSAC West battles.
