Carlow led for nearly 34 minutes of the contest but the Griffins were able to respond and take the lead late in the game and escaped with a 62-54 non conference victory. With the win, the Griffins improve to 4-2 on the season.
Carlow scored the first bucket of the game before
Mariah Wells opened the Griffins scoring with a three point play at the 8:43 mark of the first quarter. Carlow scored the next four points of the game to take a 6-3 lead. Two free throws by
Alexandria Deep and a layup from
Halie Torris gave SHU a 7-6 lead with 4:16 to play in the quarter. The Griffins would not hold a lead again in the contest until midway through the fourth quarter.
Lindsey Mifsud tied the score at 12 with a three pointer but the Celtics scored the final six points of the quarter to take a 18-12 lead after one period of play.
Back to back layups from
Chrisanna Green cut the lead to 18-16 early in the second quarter. The Celtics then went on an 8-0 run over a three minute stretch to take a 26-16 lead with 5:55 left in the half. Torris ended the run with a three pointer but the Celtics scored nine straight to build their lead up to 35-19 late in the quarter. Green scored the final bucket of the half as SHU trailed 35-21 at the halftime break. Carlow shot 48% from the field in the first half to just 26% for the Griffins.
Carlow took their biggest lead of the contest at 41-23 with 7:23 to play in the third quarter. From that point on it was all Griffins as they outscored the Celtics, 39-13, the rest of the contest. Mifsud hit two free throws to start the Griffin run.
Jessica Slagus then got a block and Wells followed with a three pointer to trim the lead to 41-28. Wells then drained her second three of the quarter to cut the lead to 42-31 with 5:37 to play. Carlow stopped the run with a bucket to push the lead back to 13 but a layin from Green and two baskets from Slagus cut the lead to 44-37 at the end of the third quarter.

Another three from Wells and a layup from Deep trimmed the lead to 44-43 with 7:25 to play. Carlow hit a basket to take a three point lead before Gill's jumper and a layup from Deep gave the Griffins their first lead since the first quarter at 47-46 with 5:42 to play. Jenna Kaufman three and took their last lead of the game at 54-51 with 4:08 to play. Gill hit a jumper then hit one of two free throws to tie the score at 54.
Hannah Laslo hit the game winning basket with 1:19 to play to put SHU ahead 56-54. SHU hit 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch to ice the game as they ended the game on an 11-0 run.
Seton Hill finished the game shooting 41% from the field including 59% in the second half. The Griffins held Carlow to just 17% shooting in the second half. SHU held a 40-38 advantage in rebounds and finished the game with 12 blocks.
Mariah Wells led the Griffins with a double double performance of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Chrisanna Green just missed a double double with 8 points and 11 rebounds.
Jharrin Gill tossed in 9 points while
Alexandria Deep added 8 points.
The Griffins will take a break for Thanksgiving and return to action next Tuesday evening when they host Pitt Johnstown to open up PSAC West action.
