SHU Earns PSAC Crossover Victory over East Stroudsburg

Seton Hill continued PSAC crossover action on Sunday afternoon as they hosted East Stroudsburg in the McKenna Center.  The Griffins picked up their first PSAC victory of the season with a 56-47 victory over the Warriors.  SHU improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in PSAC action on the season.

Jenna Kaufman answered the opening basket of the game by ESU with a three pointer to give the Griffins a 3-2 lead early in the first quarter.  That would be the only lead the Griffins would hold in the quarter as the Warriors then went on an 8-0 run to take a 10-3 lead with 3:54 left in the quarter.  Lindsey Mifsud ended the run with a three pointer and after Halie Torris hit a layup the Griffins only trailed 12-10 with just over two minutes left in the quarter.  East Stroudsburg led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter.

There was very little scoring in the second quarter as the teams combined for just 8 points and 2 made field goals.  Chrisanna Green hit one of two free throws and Mifsud hit both of hers to cut the ESU lead to 16-15 with 5:50 to play in the half.  ESU hit their first and only field goal of the quarter at the 3:14 mark.  The Griffins only field goal came from Mifsud at the 2:05 mark.  Kaufman hit one of two free throws with 41 seconds left in the half to send the game to the halftime break tied at 18.

ESU led 22-20 early in the third quarter before SHU ran off eight straight points to take a 28-22 lead with 6:19 to play in the quarter.  That would be a lead the Griffins would not give up.  Alexandra Hay drained a three pointer to give the Griffins their largest lead of the quarter at 12, 40-28, with 1:37 to play in the third.  SHU held a 40-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Warriors were able to trim the SHU lead to 46-41 with just under five minutes to play in the game but two free throws from Alexandria Deep and Kinross Obiefule and a bucket from Kaufman extended the lead back to 52-41 with 2:59 to play in the game.  Jharrin Gill hit two free throws and Torris closed out the scoring with a jumper in the last minute of play.

Jenna Kaufman led the Griffins with 13 points.  Halie Torris finished with 11 points while Lindsey Mifsud tossed in 10.

SHU will return to action on Wednesday morning when they host Carlow at 11 AM in the annual Kids Game before the Thanksgiving break.
