Seton Hill opened PSAC play on Saturday afternoon with the first of their PSAC crossover action. SHU hosted Bloomsburg in the McKenna Center in the first game of the weekend. The Griffins led 64-54 at the end of the third quarter but were outscored 28-15 in the fourth quarter as they dropped a 82-79 decision to the Huskies. SHU falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in PSAC play. Bloomsburg improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in PSAC play.
Bloomsburg scored the first four points of the game and led for the entire first quarter. A three pointer from
Lindsey Mifsud and a basket from
Halie Torris trimmed the Bloomsburg lead to 16-12 with 2:14 left in the quarter. Bloomsburg took a 21-14 lead into the second quarter.
Bloomsburg built their lead to 26-16 early in the second quarter before
Alexandria Deep hit her first three pointer of the day to cut the lead back to seven. SHU was able to cut the lead to five points twice in the quarter but BU led 33-25 with 4:24 left in the second quarter. From that point on the Griffin defense with keep the Huskies off the scoreboard while scoring 12 points of their own.
Jenna Kaufman opened the run with a jumper before Mifsud hit a three pointer. Deep hit her second three of the quarter to tie the score at 33 with 3:16 left in the half. Deep followed with another three pointer and hit one of two free throws before the half as SHU took a 37-33 lead into the halftime break.
The Huskies scored the first four points of the second half before the Griffins went on their second 12-0 run of the game. Mifsud opened the run with two free throws.
Mariah Wells then drained a three and Kaufman completed a three point play to give SHU a 45-37 lead with 5:46 left in the third quarter. Kaufman hit two more free throws before
Kinross Obiefule hit a layup to give SHU a 49-37 lead with 4:45 to play. SHU was able to build their lead to 14 points after a three pointer from Deep increased the lead to 64-50 with 22 seconds to play in the quarter. BU scored the final four points of the quarter to trim the lead to 64-54.
Torris drilled a three to extend the SHU lead to 69-56 and a layup from Kaufman gave SHU a 71-58 lead with 6:56 to play in the half. SHU would then go scoreless for the next 6:49 as Bloomsburg would retake the lead. SHU committed 6 turnovers during the run and BU tied the score at 71 with 2:53 to play and took the lead for good with a free throw at the 1:50 mark of the quarter. The Huskies were able to put the game away at the line as their final 15 points were all scored from the free throw line.
SHU finished the game shooting 39% from the floor and 43% from three point land. SHU committed 17 turnovers to 15 for Bloomsburg. BU won the rebound battle 42-41. BU hit 25-31 from the line to just 10-12 for the Griffins. SHU won the bench points 49-14.
Alexandria Deep led the Griffins with 18 points, including 5 three pointers.
Halie Torris added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Both
Jenna Kaufman and
Lindsey Mifsud each tossed in 11 points.
The Griffins will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they continue PSAC crossover play and host East Stroudsburg at 1 PM.
