Griffins Fall in OT in Season Opener at Lake Erie

Seton Hill opened their 2015-16 season with a road contest at Lake Erie on Thursday evening.  SHU trailed by five points at the half but rallied in the second half forcing overtime.  Lake Erie outscored the Griffins 14-10 in overtime for a 77-73 victory.

The Griffins came out of the gates on fire, hitting 7 of their first 9 shots, to build a 16-8 lead with 14:23 to play in the first half.  After LEC cut the lead to four points, Trevor Blondin hit a three to give SHU a 23-16 lead with 9:27 left in the first half.  Lake Erie then went on a 10-2 run to take their first lead of the contest at 26-25.  Noah Davis hit a three pointer to put SHU back in front 32-31.  Kameron Taylor followed with two free throws to extend the lead to 34-31.  LEC scored the final eight points of the half to take a 39-34 lead into the halftime break.

Davis hit a three less than three minutes into the second half to tie the score at 43.  The game was back and forth over the next stretch with neither team holding more than a two point lead.  Blondin's dunk and a jumper from Zach Herman gave SHU a 56-52 lead midway through the second half.  Both teams would then go cold from the floor as the Storm scored the only two points over the next four minute stretch.  Spencer Casson slammed home a dunk with 4:20 to play to extend the SHU lead to 60-56.  Lake Erie then took a 62-60 lead before Casson tied the score at 62 at the 2:11 mark.  LEC went 1-2 from the line at the 1:18 mark to take a one point lead.  After SHU missed a three pointer, the Storm went 0-2 from the line and led by just one with less than 30 seconds to play.  Taylor attempted a shot with 1 second remaining but was fouled on the play.  Taylor missed the first free throw but hit the second to tie the game and sent the game to overtime tied at 63.

Both teams exchanged buckets on their first possession of the overtime period.  LEC then hit a three at the 3:02 mark of the period to take a 68-65 lead.  Davis hit his one free throw after a LEC technical to cut the lead to 68-66.  Davis answered the Storm three with one of his own at the 1:34 mark.  Taylor's layin trimmed the lead to 73-71 with 48 seconds to play.  Blondin got a block on the next LEC possession but SHU missed a jumper with 14 seconds to play that would have tied the game and the Storm closed out the game by hitting their free throws.

Kameron Taylor posted a double double in his first game of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Noah Davis was right behind with 17 points.  Tyler Bowling and Trevor Blondin each hit double figures as well with Bowling scoring 11 and Blondin 10.

SHU returns to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 3 PM.
