Seton Hill and Indiana (PA) both entered Friday night's PSAC West conference matchup with identical 5-2 records in PSAC play. The Griffins came out with guns a blazing to dominate the Crimson Hawks in the first two sets and took the third set to complete a three game sweep. SHU improves to 15-5 overall and 6-2 in PSAC play while IUP drops to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in PSAC play.
The Griffins scored the first four points of the first set and took an early 9-2 lead, mostly on IUP errors. SHU went on a 5-0 run late in the set on kills from
Shelby Kyllo and two from
Emily Gilles to take an 18-6 lead. A kill from
Rachel Satira and a block from
Jessica Beal and
Maggie Murray gave the Griffins a 25-12 first set win. SHU came out of the gates flying in the second set as well as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead forcing a Crimson Hawk timeout. A kill from Kyllo set off a string of 10 service points from Shelby that built the lead to 20-5. Kyllo has a string of three straight aces in the run.
Cassie Hausfeld gave the Griffins a set point with a kill and
Lauren Teed ended the second set in style with an ace to give SHU a 25-10 victory. IUP lead in the early part of the third set and held a 6-5 lead before SHU ran off four straight points with two service aces from
Mary Baich. IUP trimmed the lead to 13-12 before SHU went on another 4-0 run. Kills from Gilles and Hausfeld gave SHU match point. Kyllo and Gilles ended the match with a block that gave the Griffins a 25-19 win.
Cassie Hausfeld and
Shelby Kyllo each had 6 kills for the Griffins.
Emily Gilles finished with 5.
Maggie Murray had a match high 8 blocks with Kyllo and
Jenna Sassack each adding 6. Murray led the Griffins with 20 assists. Kyllo had 5 aces while
Lauren Teed added 3 and
Mary Baich two. Teed had a match high 12 digs.
Seton Hill will continue PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon when they host Clarion at 1 PM.
