Seton Hill returned to PSAC West play on Halloween weekend as the Griffins hosted Mercyhurst as they started the second round of divisional play. The match was highly contested with the Griffins earning the five set win. SHU improves to 20-9 overall and 11-5 in PSAC play.
The first set belonged to the Griffins as they won by a 25-13 score. SHU used runs of 6-0, 5-0 and 4-0 in the set win. Mercyhurst built a 14-10 lead in the second set before the Griffins rallied to take a 16-15 lead. The Lakers then used a 4-0 and 3-0 run to take the second set by a 25-21 score. SHU jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the third set. SHU led 19-14 before the Lakers scored four straight to cut the lead to 19-18. SHU used kills from

Maggie Murray and the final one from
Rachel Satira in the 25-21 third set win. The Griffins led early in the fourth set 5-2 but Mercyhurst went on a 9-3 run to take an 11-8 lead. SHU responded with a 5-0 run of their own. The Lakers built their lead to 24-20 and the Griffins put forth a nice effort before the Lakers sent it to a fifth set with a 25-23 win.
SHU built a 7-5 lead in the fifth set only to see the Lakers come back and take a 10-8 lead.
Jessica Beal started the comeback with kill. Two Hurst errors and a block from Kyllo and Murray gave SHU a 12-10 lead. Murray then finished a long rally with a kill to make it 13-10. Kyllo and Baich teammed up for a block to give SHU match point and Kyllo ended the match with a kill as SHU scored seven straight to win 15-10.
Rachel Satira led with 17 kills.
Shelby Kyllo added 14 kills.
Cassie Hausfeld finished with 9. Kyllo had 7 blocks while
Jenna Sassack added 6.
Maggie Murray finished with 48 assists and
Lauren Teed had a match high 48 digs.
SHU returns to action on Saturday when they host Gannon at 1 PM in another key PSAC West showdown. Seton Hill and Gannon are both tied for third place with 11-5 records.
