Griffins Fall to Slippery Rock After Late PK

The Griffin women's soccer team closed out its home portion of the season when they hosted Slippery Rock at Dick's Field on Tuesday afternoon.  SHU took a 1-0 lead in the second half but saw Slippery Rock score two goals including a late PK as they defeated the Griffins by a 2-1 score.  SHU falls to 7-9-1 overall and 5-9-1 in PSAC action.

The first half of the contest was very evenly played with Slippery Rock holding a 5-3 advantage in shots.  Griffin keeper Carolin Edenhofner kept the Rock on the scoreboard in the first half by making three first half saves.  Emily LoPresti had the lone Griffin shot on goal in the first half.

SHU had back to back shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half as Alex McIntosh and LoPresti each had their shots stopped by the Rock keeper.  Edenhofner then made two saves over the next 5 minutes to keep the game tied at 0.  SHU got on the scoreboard in the 61st minute.  LoPresti played a ball into the box that was wiffed on by the Rock defender and Emma Porteous picked up the loose ball and beat the Rock keeper for the 1-0 Griffin lead.  The Rock tied the score in the 78th minute.  Slippery Rock then was given a penalty kick in the 88th minute on a controversial hand ball call in the box.  The Rock scored on the PK to take a 2-1 lead and held off a late Griffin rally for the 2-1 win.

SHU will close out their season on Saturday when they travel to West Chester for a 1:30 PM kickoff.
