The Griffins returned to PSAC West action after a two week break from division play on Friday evening at Slippery Rock. SHU took the first set with Slippery Rock taking the second before the Griffins closed out the match with two straight set wins for a 3-1 victory. SHU improves to 19-7 overall and 10-4 in PSAC play.
The Rock opened up the match with a 3-1 lead in the first set. SHU then ran off four straight to take a 5-3 lead. After the Rock tied the score at five, the teams alternated points until the set was tied at 12. A kill from
Cassie Hausfeld and an ace from
Rachel Satira gave SHU a 14-12 lead. Two kills from
Maggie Murray and one each from
Katie Wenson and
Jenna Sassack increased the SHU lead to 18-13. The Griffins took the first set by a 25-20 score.
Slippery Rock took a 14-8 lead in the second set. SHU then scored four straight to trim the lead to 14-12. Slippery Rock took the second set by a 25-16 score. The first 12 points of the third set alternated between the teams and the score was tied at 6. SRU then took a 10-7 lead. Two Rock errors cut the lead to 10-9. After a Rock kill, SHU answered with five straight points to take a 14-11 lead. SRU battled back to cut the SHU lead to 18-16. The Griffins then scored five straight points on kills from
Mary Baich,
Emily Gilles and Hausfeld to take a 23-16 lead. A kill from Wenson ended the set and gave SHU a 25-18 win.
SHU jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fourth set on two kills from Wenson and two aces from Baich. SRU answered with four straight points. The Griffins answered right back with four straight points of their own to take a 10-4 lead. The Griffins continued to control play and won the set by a 25-16 score.
Katie Wenson led the Griffins with 12 kills.
Cassie Hausfeld added 11 kills and
Mary Baich finished the match with 9. Wenson and
Jenna Sassack each had 3 blocks.
Maggie Murray lead the team with 30 assists and
Brynn Fleury tossed in 12.
Lauren Teed had a team high 18 digs and Baich added 15 with Hausfeld adding 13.
Seton Hill will continue PSAC West play on Saturday when they travel to Edinboro.
