SHU scored twice in the first half and added one more in the second half for the 3-1 win to end a long losing streak. SHU improves to 1-13 overall and 1-7 in PSAC play.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard first at the 19:10 mark of the first half.
Taylor Dohar found
Brittany Davis to the right of the goal and Davis beat the keeper to the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead. Just over five minutes later SHU increased the lead to 2-0.
Kelci McCoy deflected in a shot from
Kayla Chapman to make the score 2-0. The Griffins held a 2-0 lead at the half. SHU outshot Mansfield 12-3 and had a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Ashley Curnow increased the lead to 3-0 with a goal from
Mackenzie Nalepa, 4:56 into the second half. Mansfield cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 50
th minute. SHU finished with a 17-9 advantage in shots
Alexandra Piekarz recorded three saves in the win with
Jane Eberhardt adding three saves in the second half.
SHU will host Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon at 12 noon.
