SHU Falls on the Road at Unbeaten Clarion

Seton Hill hit the road to battle unbeaten Clarion on Saturday afternoon in a nationally televised contest.  SHU held an early 10-7 lead and trailed just 13-10 at the half but were outscored 31-19 in the second half for a 44-29 loss.  SHU drops to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in PSAC West play. 
 
Clarion took the opening kickoff of the game and drove 75 yards in 5 plays, capped with a 10 yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead.  SHU responded with a 77 yard drive on 8 plays to tie the score.  On the drive, Christian Strong hit Eric Brown for a 52 yard pass down to the Clarion one yard line.  Brandon Stout then scored from one yard out to knot the game at 7-7.  SHU stopped Clarion on their next two drives and then used a 13 play drive to take the lead.  Jesser Boulnemour capped off a 59 yard drive with a 20 yard field goal to give SHU a 10-7 lead with 41 seconds to play in the first quarter. 
 
Richardo Housen picked off a Clarion pass on the second play of the second quarter but the Griffins went three and out on their next possession.  The Golden Eagles then went 91 yards in 15 plays and hit a22 yard field goal to tie the score at 10 with 7:05 left in the half.  On the final drive of the half, Clarion went 14 plays and 77 yards to hit a 22 yard field goal and give the Golden Eagles a 13-10 halftime lead. 
 
Seton Hill fumbled the opening kickoff of the second half and Clarion took advantage of the turnover and converted it into points with a 25 yard field goal to increase the lead to 16-10.  After SHU went three and out on the next drive, the Golden Eagles scored on a 23 yard TD pass to increase their lead to 23-10 with just under 10 minutes to play in the third quarter.  The Griffins again went three and out and Clarion followed with an 82 yard drive, ending with a 15 yard touchdown pass to increase their lead to 30-10.  SHU then put together an 11 play, 69 yard drive that ended with a Strong to Ty George 17 yard TD pass that cut the Clarion lead to 30-17 with 3:32 to play in the third quarter.  Clarion scored on a 7 yard touchdown rush for the final score of the quarter and led 37-17 entering the fourth quarter. 
 
The Golden Eagles scored on their first drive of the fourth quarter to push their lead to 44-17.  Shane Leatherbury caught a 18 yard touchdown pass from Strong to trim the lead to 44-23 midway through the fourth quarter.  Ardell Brown closed out the scoring with an 83 yard punt return late in the fourth quarter.
 
Christian Strong finished 25-50 for 356 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Shane Leatherbury led the receivers with 5 catches for 87 yards and 1 touchdown.  Eric Brown added 4 catches for 83 yards.  Dexter Williams led the defense with 11 tackles.  Josh Falatovich and Fito Andre added 8.
 
SHU will host Gannon next Saturday at 4 PM in the Griffins homecoming contest.  The 2005 football team will be honored at halftime for their 10th anniversary.
