The Seton Hill women's lacrosse team will be hosting West Chester on Tuesday in a PSAC quarterfinal game. Game time is set for 4 p.m. The winner of tomorrow's game will play in the PSAC semifinals at Lock Haven on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
Top seed Lock Haven and second seed Mercyhurst have both earn a first round bye. Bloomsburg will play at IUP in the other PSAC quarterfinal game. Mercyhurst will play the winner of IUP/Bloomsburg and Lock Haven will play the winner of Seton Hill/West Chester.
'I think this is a big step for our program and demonstrates how hard the girls have been working this season," said head lacrosse coach Courtney Grove. "They stepped back on the field this year determined and motivated to play together as a team."
Previously this season, Seton Hill defeated West Chester 15-10 to earn their fifth PSAC victory. The Griffins jumped out to a 9-2 halftime lead in the first meeting between the schools. West Chester would not get any closer than 5 goals in the second half. Emma Simmers led the Griffin offense with 5 goals and 3 assists. Emily Fagan finished with 4 goals. Morgan Cain and Rachel Hilbert each added two goals. Hannah Cowan led the Rams with 5 goals. Dina Cifelli added two goals and two assists in the loss.
Seton Hill enters the postseason on a six-game winning streak. The Griffins finished the regular season 13-4 overall and 8-4 in PSAC, which earned the fourth seed for the PSAC tournament.
Simmers is the top scorer for the Griffins, finishing the regular season with 60 goals and 19 assists. Fagan is right behind with 57 goals and 13 assists. Cain is the team's third leading scorer with 36 goals and 29 assists. Renee Kania leads the team with 47 assists. She has also added 6 goals. Christine Palmeri is fourth on the team with 25 goals. Melanie Morgret brings in a four game winning streak in the net for the Griffins. Cifelli is the West Chester leading point getter on the season with 77. She has 20 goals and 57 assists. Cowan leads the Rams with 52 goals, she has also added 13 assists.
"I think the cohesiveness and the determination is what got them to where they are today. This is a great step forward for the future and it sets the bar high for us to continue to improve and make an impact within the PSAC and the NCAA. We will want to fight for this spot every year and continue to work to host the semifinals and championship in the future," stated Grove.
Fans come out to support the Seton Hill Women's lacrosse team's first PSAC tournament game against West Chester. Ticket prices, which are set by the PSAC, are $7 for adults and $2 for students.
