Box Score 2 The Griffin softball team made the trip to Edinboro on Saturday for a PSAC West doubleheader. Edinboro scored two runs in the sixth inning for a 6-5 victory in game one. The Fighting Scots then defeated the Griffins 12-2 in five innings in game two to complete the sweep. SHU falls to 20-18 overall and 10-16 in PSAC West play.
Edinboro took a 2-0 lead with a two run homer in the bottom of the first inning of game one. SHU tied the score in the top of the second. After two outs,
Christine Henderson singled and
Jacqui Palmer followed with a base hit. Henderson then scored when the
Ashley Sample reached on an error.
Abbey Suhoski then singled in a run to tie the score at two. The Scots retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the second. SHU jumped right back into the lead in the top of the third.
Lauren Sauerwein led off with a double.
Kaitlyn Kutchman then singled.
Carlee Wickstrom then hit a three run homer to give SHU a 5-3 lead. Edinboro trimmed the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth. Edinboro scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth.
Amanda Huff suffered the loss, going the distance.
Lauren Sauerwein and
Christine Henderson each had two hits.
The Scots scored 8 runs on 8 hits in the bottom of the first inning of game two and never looked back in the five inning contest. SHU scored their only two runs in the top of the fourth.
Jacqui Palmer picked up the only RBI of the inning.
SHU will close out the regular season when they host Gannon on Sunday to complete the game that was started earlier this week and play game two of the doubleheader.
