Box Score Salisbury, NC- The Seton Hill Men's lacrosse team is defeated by Catawba College 11-10 for the Griffin's last regular season game on Saturday at Shuford Stadium. The Griffins finish the regular season with an overall record of 9 wins and 5 losses. Looking ahead, Seton Hill will travel to Mercyhurst University for an ECAC semi-final playoff game on May 2.
Catawba won the first quarter, scoring the only goal they lead going into the second 1-0. For the first time all season Seton Hill was held scoreless for the first quarter of play. Catawba goalkeeper Ryan Applegate had 6 saves in the first quarter. Seton Hill fired off ten shots none of which could put the Griffins on the board.
Seton Hill started off the second quarter with a 3-goal scoring run started by
Erik Hultgren who scored on a right-handed shot by beating his man from the right wing.
Corbin Takahara scored the second Griffin goal at 9:54 in the second on a trick play. He faking a flip pass to Zach Rusch leaving the Catawba defense confused about who had the ball and Corbin scored on the open net while the keeper wasn't looking.
Matt Delmonico scored the third Griffin goal on an assist by
Dylan Lefebvre at 7:42.
Catawba scored two goals to tie the score at 3 with 4:54 left in the first half. Again the attack duo Delmonico and Lefebvre connect for a goal, this time on a man-up. The Griffins could not hold the 4-3 lead, with 0:10 left in the half Catawba scored; initiated from a broken ride attempt by Seton Hill. Half-time score was tied 4-4.
Catawba started the second half scoring, scored by John Scheich who had 3 goals on the day. For the second time the Griffins rally for another 3-goal scoring run. Goals by
Marc Piche, Delmonico and
Corbin Takahara gave the Griffins a 7-5 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
The Seton Hill momentum was short lived as the Griffins lead and defensive composure begins to slip away. Catawba outscored the Griffins in the fourth quarter 6-3 to take the victory by a score of 11-10.
