SHU Splits PSAC West Doubleheader at Clarion

Seton Hill had to battle the raindrops and the Eagles from Clarion in a PSAC West doubleheader on Friday afternoon.  The Griffins were able to defeat the Eagles in game one by the score of 8-3.  The rain and the Eagles got the best of the Griffins in game two as they took a 7-6 victory.  Clarion took a 7-6 lead after five innings but the Griffins were able to tie the score at 7 while batting in the top of the sixth.  Then the rains halted the game and the score reverts back to the last played full inning, giving Clarion the 7-6 win.  SHU is now 20-16 overall and 10-13 in PSAC West play.

The Griffins scored three runs in the top of the first inning of game one.  Dani Treaster led off the game by drawing a walk, she then stole second base.  Christine Henderson also drew a walk.  Both scored when Kaitlyn Kutchman doubled to left center field.  Kutchman scored when Amanda Huff singled to center field.  Clarion hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning.  Four straight walks to lead off the top of the third gave the Griffins another run.  Huff picked up the easy RBI.  Jacqui Palmer drove in a run when she reached on a fielders choice.  Kutchman then scored on an error to give SHU the 6-1 advantage.  Treaster walked to lead off the fourth inning.  She stole a bag and then scored on a base hit from Henderson.  The Eagles cut the lead to 7-2 with a run in the bottom of the fourth.  Treaster scored the Griffins final run of the game all on her own.  She doubled to lead off the sixth and scored after two wild pitches.  Clarion scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh. 

Amanda Huff earned the win in game one.  She threw all 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8.  Huff also had two hits in the contest.  Dani Treaster reached base 3 out of 4 times and scored 3 runs. 

Seton Hill took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game two as well.  Dani Treaster led off the game with a single.  She moved to third base when Lauren Sauerwein doubled.  Treaster then scored on a RBI groundout by Christine HendersonCarlee Wickstrom then followed with a two run homer to center field to give SHU a 3-0 lead.  Clarion then scored a run in the bottom of the first inning.  SHU added a run in the top of the second inning.  Ashley Sample led off with a single.  She moved to second when Jacqui Palmer walked.  Treaster then singled in Sample to give SHU a 4-1 lead.  Seton Hill scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Treaster led off the inning with a single.  She stole second and moved to third on a base hit from Lauren Sauerwein.  Treaster then scored on a RBI groundout from Henderson.  Sauerwein then scored on an error to give SHU the 6-1 lead.  Clarion tied the score with 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Clarion won the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Amanda Huff suffered the loss in relief in game two.  Dani Treaster finished the game going 3-4.  Lauren Sauerwein and Ashley Sample each had two hits.

Seton Hill will travel to Edinboro on Saturday for a PSAC West doubleheader.
