Griffins Earn Doubleheader Split at IUP

The Griffin softball team made the short trip to Indiana, PA to battle the Crimson Hawks in a key PSAC West battle on Saturday afternoon.  IUP rallied from 3-0 down in game one for a 4-3 victory.  Seton Hill then won game two by the score of 3-2 to earn the doubleheader split.  SHU is now 19-13 overall and 9-11 in PSAC West play. 

Seton Hill cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning.  Kaitlyn Kutchman, Amanda Huff and Kristina Torretti each singled to load the bases.  After a groundout, Abbey Suhoski drew a bases loaded walk to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  After a strikeout, Lauren Sauerwein singled in two runs to give SHU a 3-0 lead.  IUP got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth.  The Crimson Hawks used a bases clearing double in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.  Amanda Huff suffered the loss.  She gave up all 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and struck out 6.  Dani Treaster, Sauerwein and Torretti each had two hits in game one.

The Griffins again jumped out to a lead in game two.  In the top of the second, Amanda Huff led off with a single.  Kristina Torretti then drew a walk.  Ashley Sample then reached on a bunt base hit to load the bases.  Abbey Suhoski then singled in pinch runner Paige Kovalchik and Torretti scored on an error by the IUP right fielder to give SHU the 2-0 lead.  IUP cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third.  SHU got that run right back in the top of the fourth.  After two outs, Suhoski doubled and scored on a single from Dani Treaster.  IUP scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth.  Huff earned the victory by going the distance in game two.  Christine Henderson and Suhoski each had two hits.

Seton Hill is scheduled to host Gannon on Tuesday in a PSAC West doubleheader.
