Box Score A driving rain storm and falling temperatures were not enough to stop the Griffin women's lacrosse team as they knocked off Bloomsburg in overtime on Tuesday afternoon.
Emily Fagan scored the game winner with 2:16 to play in the first overtime period to give the Griffins a 10-9 win. Seton Hill improves to 11-4 overall and 6-4 in PSAC play. The win is the fourth in a row for the team.
The Griffins jumped on the board first with two goals in the game's first four minutes.
Christine Palmeri scored the first goal on a free position shot and then just 21 seconds later
Renee Kania scored from
Emma Simmers to give SHU a 2-0 lead. Bloomsburg then went on a 4-0 run to take a 4-2 lead with 16:17 to play.
Alessandra Nicholas and
Elizabeth Otwell each scored for the Griffins to trim the lead to 6-4 with just over ten minutes to play. SHU then closed the half on a 3-0 run to take a 7-6 halftime lead. Simmers scored two of the goals with
Emily Fagan adding the other. Kania assisted on one goal with
Morgan Cain picking up the other two assists.
The scoring decreased in the second half as the rain picked up. Bloomsburg scored the first two goals of the half to take an 8-7 lead with 22:42 to play. Simmers answered right back just 12 seconds later to tie the score at 8-8. The Huskies retook the lead with a goal at the 12:07 mark of the second half.
Rachel Hilbert tied the game with a man down goal with 8:22 to play in the half. Neither team was able to score in the final eight minutes of regulation sending the game into overtime. Neither team scored in the first 3 minute overtime period as well. The Griffins thought they had a goal in that period but it was called back because of a goal circle violation. SHU was then able to finally crack the scoreboard 44 seconds into the second overtime session when Fagan scored from Simmers.
Emma Simmers led the Griffins with 3 goals and 2 assists.
Emily Fagan added 2 goals and 3 assists.
Morgan Cain finished with 2 assists.
Melanie Morget recorded 6 saves in net for the win.
Seton Hill will host Millersville on Saturday. It will be senior day with the game time set for 3 PM.
