SHU Drops 17-11 Decision at Mercyhurst

Seton Hill made the long trip up Interstate 79 to Erie, PA to battle Mercyhurst in a PSAC contest.  Mercyhurst broke open a 3-3 tie with five goals in a row and never looked back for a 17-11 victory.  SHU drops to 7-4 overall and 2-4 in PSAC play.

Emily Fagan scored twice in the first 1:05 of the contest to give SHU the quick 2-0 lead.  Morgan Cain and Emma Simmers each assisted on one of the goals.  Mercyhurst then answered with 3 straight to take a 3-2 lead just five minutes into the contest.  Simmers scored unassisted at the 24:51 mark of the first half to tied the score at three.  The Lakers then scored the next five goals to take an 8-3 lead at the 15:04 mark of the first half.  Renee Kania and Christine Palmeri scored the next two goals to trim the lead to 8-5 but three straight from Mercyhurst pushed the advantage to 11-5.  Fagan closed out the first half scoring with a goal with 12 seconds left in the half to head into the break trailing 11-6. 

Mercyhurst put the game away by scoring the first five goals of the second half.  The Griffins scored five goals to make the outcome look close at the end.  Cain scored twice with Fagan, Simmers and Abby Shaughness each scoring one goal.

Emily Fagan led the Griffins with 4 goals.  Emma Simmers and Morgan Cain each scored twice with Simmers adding 3 assists and Cain one.

The Griffins will travel to Kutztown for a PSAC contest on Saturday for a 1 PM start.
