Griffins Split PSAC Doubleheader at Slippery Rock

The Griffin softball team hit the road for a PSAC doubleheader at Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.  Seton Hill was shutout in game one by the score of 6-0 before avoiding the sweep with a 5-3 victory in game two.  SHU is now 13-3 on the season and 3-1 in PSAC play. 

Slippery Rock scored single runs in the second and third innings off of starter Christine Henderson to take a 2-0 lead.  The Rock added three more unearned runs in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 5-0.  SRU closed out the scoring with a run in the sixth.  Henderson suffered her first loss of the season.  She gave up all 6 runs, 3 of which were earned on 11 hits.  She struck out 8 and walked 2.  Amanda Huff was the lone Griffin with two hits.

The Griffins got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the second.  Jacqui Palmer singled after one out and scored when Hope Pehrson hit a two run homer to left field.  SHU added three more runs in the third.  Lauren Sauerwein led off the inning with a single and scored when Christine Henderson hit a two run homer to left field.  Carlee Wickstrom followed with a solo shot to center to give SHU a 5-0 advantage.  The Rock answered with one in the bottom of the third and closed out the scoring with two in the sixth.  Hope Pehrson improved to 3-0 with the complete game victory.  She gave up the three runs, one earned on five hits.  Henderson and Wickstrom each had two hits for the Griffins.

SHU will travel to California (PA) for a PSAC West doubleheader on Monday.
