SHU Earns First PSAC Win with 10-9 Victory over Slippery Rock

Seton Hill hosted Slippery Rock on Tuesday afternoon with each team looking for their first PSAC victory of the season.  The Griffins were able to hang on for a 10-9 victory and record their first PSAC victory in school history.  SHU improves to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play. 

Slippery Rock scored the first goal of the game just less than 10 minutes into the first half.  The Griffins answered with two goals in 20 seconds to take a 2-1 lead.  Emily Fagan tied the score at 1 with a goal from Rachel Hilbert.  Twenty seconds later Emma Simmers scored from Elizabeth Otwell to give SHU a 2-1 lead.  The Rock tied the score with a goal at the 17:55 mark of the first half.  Then the game became the Emma Simmers show as she scored the next three goals to give SHU a 5-2 lead with 11:21 to play in the half.  Renee Kania assisted on the second goal and Fagan assisted on the third.  SRU then answered with three goals to tie the score at five with 4:23 to play.  Fagan scored with 31 seconds left in the half to give SHU a 6-5 lead at the break. 

The Rock tied the score at six with a goal less than two minutes into the second half.  SHU then went on another 3-0 run to take a 9-6 lead with 25:42 to play.  Morgan Cain scored the first goal from Renee KaniaChristine Palmeri then scored from Emily Fagan less than a minute later.  Fagan closed out the run with a goal from Kania.  SRU scored with 23:27 to play to cut the lead to 9-7.  Palmeri gave SHU the three goal lead back with a goal from Cain at the 14:39 mark of the half.  Slippery Rock then scored twice in the last two and a half minutes but could not find the game tying goal and the Griffins escaped with the 10-9 win. 

Emma Simmers led the Griffins offense with 4 goals.  Emily Fagan added 3 goals and 2 assists.  Christine Palmeri scored two goals.  Morgan Cain scored a goal and added an assist.  Renee Kania supplied three assists.

Seton Hill will hit the road this weekend for two PSAC contests as they battle Shippensburg on Friday and Lock Haven on Saturday.
