The Griffin women's lacrosse team took a break from PSAC play for a road trip to Shepherdstown, WV to battle the Rams on Tuesday afternoon. Seton Hill scored 11 goals in the second half to pull away from Shepherd for a 19-11 victory. SHU improves to 5-1 on the season.
Emma Simmers opened up the scoring with a goal just 1:25 into the contest. Shepherd tied the score at one just over a minute later.
Morgan Cain then gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead at the 25:54 mark of the first half. After a goal from the Rams, Simmers gave the Griffins a 3-2 lead off an assist from
Renee Kania.
Rachel Hilbert extended the Griffins lead to 5-3 off a feed from
Charlotte Cunningham with just over 13 minutes to play in the half. Cunningham then made it 6-3 with a goal of her own. Shepherd then cut the lead to 6-5 with just over nine minutes left in the half. Goals from Hilbert and
Emily Fagan gave the Griffins an 8-5 lead at the half.
Shepherd cut the lead to 8-7 less than three minutes into the second half. Fagan then made it 9-7.
Elizabeth Otwell then scored off a feed from
Christine Palmeri to make it 11-7 with 20:45 to play. Back to back goals from Fagan increased the lead to 13-7. Cain made it 14-8 with a goal at the 14:12 mark. The Griffins were able to hold the large advantage throughout the rest of the contest.
Emily Fagan led the Griffins with 5 goals and 1 assist.
Emma Simmers finished with 4 goals.
Charlotte Cunningham and
Elizabeth Otwell each scored three goals. Cunningham also added 2 assists.
Morgan Cain and
Rachel Hilbert each scored twice.
Renee Kania added 3 assists.
Seton HIll will travel to Gannon on Saturday for another PSAC contest.
