Griffins Split Road Contests at Virginia State

The Griffin softball team opened their spring trip with a road doubleheader at Virginia State on Wednesday afternoon.  Virginia State took game one by the score of 5-1 before the Griffins earned the split with a 11-3 victory in game two.  SHU now sits at 5-2 on the season.

Game one was scoreless until the top of the third inning.  Dani Treaster struck out but reached on an error.  Lauren Sauerwein followed with a single and Treaster scored when Christine Henderson doubled to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  Virginia State tied the score with a run in the fourth.  Virginia State scored their final four runs of the contest in the sixth.  Henderson was 3-3 for the Griffins.

Seton Hill took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of game two.  Dani Treaster led off the game by reaching on an error.  Lauren Sauerwein and Christine Henderson then both singled to load the bases.  Carlee Wickstrom was then hit by a pitch to score Treaster.  After two outs, Kristina Torretti singled in another run to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.  Henderson then drove in two more runs with a hit in the second.  SHU scored four runs in the third.  Sauerwein drew a bases loaded walk and Wickstrom singled in a run to key the inning.  Kaitlyn Kutchman hit a two run homer in the sixth. 

Christine Henderson earned her third win of the season in the circle.  Dani Treaster and Henderson each had three hits.  Lauren Sauerwein and Carlee Wickstrom each added two hits. 

The Griffins will take part in the WV Wesleyan Tournament at Salem, VA this weekend.
