Griffins Improve to 2-0 With 15-8 Victory over Holy Family

The women's lacrosse team made the trip across the state of Pennsylvania to battle Holy Family at Villanova Stadium on Saturday morning.  SHU jumped out to a 7-4 halftime lead and came away with a 15-8 victory to improve to 2-0 on the season. 

Emily Fagan scored 2:15 into the contest off a feed from Renee Kania.  Holy Family answered with 2 goals to take a 2-1 lead with 18:22 to play in the half.  SHU then responded with 4 goals of their own to take a 5-2 lead.  Emily Simmers scored the first two goals with Christine Palmeri and Fagan scoring the last two goals of the run.  Holy Family scored two of the next three goals with Fagan netting the Griffin goal.  HFU made the score 6-4 with 1:50 to play in the first half before Morgan Cain made it 7-4 at the halftime break with a goal with just over a minute to play.  Simmers assisted on the Cain goal. 

The Griffins took complete control of the contest by scoring the first four goals of the second half.  Rachel Hilbert started off the scoring, followed by two from Simmers and Palmeri gave SHU an 11-4 lead with 18:11 to play in the half.  HFU cut the lead to 11-6 at the 12:04 mark of the half.  The Griffins then had another four goal run to put the game away.  Simmers and Palmeri scored the first two with Charlotte Cunningham and Tristen Hanke scoring the final two Griffin goals.

Emma Simmers led the Griffins with 5 goals and 1 assist.  She also added 8 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers and 3 draw controls.  Emily Fagan and Christine Palmeri each scored 3 goals.  Renee Kania assisted on 4 goals.  Morgan Cain scored once and added an assist.  Meghan Hollar recorded 3 saves in net in the first half to earn the win. 

The Griffins will host Chestnut Hill next Saturday.
