#7 Griffins Take Season Opener 19-1 Over Ohio Valley

Greensburg, PA- The nationally ranked #7 Seton Hill Griffins Men's Lacrosse Team hosted Ohio Valley University for their first game of the 2014 regular season on Sunday afternoon. After a few minutes to have a feel for the opponent and the weather, the first Seton Hill goal for the 2014 season was scored by Jack Miller at 11:19 in the first quarter. After the first half the score read SHU 11, OVU 1. Despite the unfavorably cold weather and a total of 24 team turnovers, Seton Hill was able to stomp out the visiting Fighting Scotts 19-1.
 
Seton Hill outshot Ohio Valley 48 to 11 and landed 32 of the shots on goal. The Griffins cleared the ball 23 times and only failed to clear twice. The Griffins also went 2-2 on Extra Man Up opportunities and won the Ground Ball war as the Griffins had 19 more Ground Balls than the Fighting Scots.
 
Impressively the Griffin's starting attack unit produced 21 points on Seton Hill's 19 goals.  Dylan Lefebvre scored 7 Points (2 Goals, 5 Assists), Marc Piche scored 6 Points (2 Goals, 4 Assists), and Matt Delmonico scored 8 Points (5 Goals, 3 Assists).
 
At the face-off X, Anthony Peluso went 14-21 and contributed 8 Ground Balls. Peluso also had both of the Seton Hill penalties.
 
From the midfield position Zach Rusch contributed 2 Goals on 5 Shots, Erik Hultgren had 2 Goals and 1 Assist, Jack Miller had 3 Goals on 5 Shots, and Dom Puglise produced 1 Goal, 1 Assist, and 2 Shots.
 
Overall the Griffin defense played very well as a team and only allowed 1 goal for the entire contest. Jon Macurak lead the defense with 3 Ground Balls and 3 Caused Turnovers. Anthony DeSana also contributed in the defensive zone with 2 Ground Balls. Dylan Gelven added solid defense from the midfield position with 1 Ground Ball and 2 Caused Turnovers. Long stick middie, Colin Blaney had his first NCAA goal assisted by  Marc Piche.
 
Brady Lawrence was honored as the starting goalkeeper. Brady played first half of the game and had 1 Goal Against and 1 Save. Alex Hill and James Newman had a second half shutout adding 4 Saves.
 
The Griffin's next game will be home on Saturday, February, 22 at 12 PM as they host nationally ranked New York Institute of Technology.
