SHU Closes Out PSAC Crossover Action with a 78-62 Victory

Seton Hill closed out PSAC crossover action on Wednesday night with a home contest against Lock Haven.  The Griffins ran their winning streak to three games with a 78-62 victory.  With the win the Griffins improve to 9-5 on the season.

The early part of the first half was tightly played and Lock Haven held a 8-6 advantage before Paige Alviani hit a three pointer to give the Griffins a 9-8 advantage, a lead they would never give up.  Back to back threes from Alviani and Tiara Stossel pushed the Griffin lead to 21-10 with 11:58 to play in the half.  Another three pointer from Stossel gave the Griffins their largest advantage of the first half at 24-12.  Lock Haven trimmed the lead to 29-21 before back to back baskets from Mallory Sanner gave SHU a 34-25 lead with 3:13 to play.  Lock Haven scored the last four points of the half to enter the halftime break trailing 34-29.

Lock Haven scored six of the first eight points of the second half to trim the lead to 38-35.  Katie Gattuso ended that Lock Haven run with a basket and started a 11-2 run that pushed the Griffins lead to 49-37 with 12:30 to play.  Lock Haven was able to battle back and cut the lead to 53-50 with 7:38 to play.  A layup from Sara Pilarski and a three pointer from Kelly Brennan extended the lead back to 58-50 with 6:47 to go.  Lock Haven made their final run of the contest, cutting the lead to 61-56 with just under five minutes left.  Three straight three pointers from Paige Alviani put the game away and gave the Griffins a 70-56 advantage with two minutes to play.  Jessica Slagus closed out the scoring for the Griffins by scoring the team's final five points.

Paige Alviani led the Griffins with 20 points.  Katie Gattuso posted another double double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.  Meghan Mastroianni also reached double figures with 11 points.  Tiara Stossel finished with 9 points and Mallory Sanner added 6 points and 7 rebounds. 

Seton Hill will return to PSAC West play next Wednesday when they host Pitt Johnstown.
