Late Rally Comes up Short as Griffins are Eliminated from NCAA Tournament

Seton Hill entered a new era for their men's lacrosse program as they played in their first NCAA Tournament contest on Saturday afternoon.  The Griffins opened up NCAA South Region play with a contest in Gaffney, SC against the number two seed, Limestone College.  The Griffins rallied to cut the lead to 15-13 with less than two minutes to play but it was not enough as they fell to Limestone 16-13 in the NCAA South Region Semifinal.  The Griffins season ends at 12-4.
 
Both teams hit a pipe early in the contest and the Griffins failed on their first man up opportunity in the game's first five minutes.  SHU failed to score on their second man up opportunity as well and the game remained scoreless 8 minutes into the contest.  Limestone took a 1-0 lead with a man up goal with 4:58 to play in the first.  The Saints extended their lead to 2-0 just a minute later.  A Griffin turnover led to another Limestone goal 20 seconds later.  Another Griffin turnover and Limestone scored another fast break goal to push the lead to 4-0 with 3:07 to play in the first.  James Delaney scored the first goal for the Griffins with 35 seconds to play in the first half.  The Griffins cut the lead to 5-2 on a man up goal from Taylor Mansfield from Dylan Lefebvre with 11 seconds to play in the quarter. 
 
Limestone scored 10 seconds into the second quarter to extend the lead back to four goals.  Kevin Cala scored off a feed from Matt Delmonico at the 12:51 mark of the second quarter.  Lefebvre scored from Delmonico at the 12:14 mark to trim the lead to 6-4.   Limestone pushed the lead back to 7-4 with a man up goal with 5:18 to play in the second.  Delaney scored his second of the game with a rifle shot to the upper corner of the net on a man up opportunity with 2:38 to play in the second quarter to cut the lead back to 7-5.  Limestone answered with a goal a minute later to push the advantage back to 3. 
 
The Griffins scored the first goal of the third quarter Delaney scoring from Delmonico at the 13:14 mark of the quarter.   Limestone answered a minute later to make the score 9-6.  They pushed the lead to 10-6 just 10 seconds later.  Lefebvre cut the lead back to 10-7 with 9:27 to play in the third.  Marc Piche scored to make the score 11-8 with 7:37 left in the third quarter.  The Saints scored three straight and increased the lead to 14-8 with just under three to play in the third.  Delmonico ended the run with an unassisted goal with 1:43 to play. 
 
Delmonico got the fourth quarter started with a goal to trim the lead to 14-10.  Limestone scored a two man up goal with 8:52 to extend the lead back to 5 goals.  Piche scored a minute later to trim the lead back to four at 15-11.  The Griffins cut the lead to 15-12 with 3:32 to play on a goal from Delmonico assisted by Anthony Rusch.  Lefebvre scored with 2:19 to play to cut the lead to 15-13.  The Griffins had one last possession but hit two pipes and Limestone scored a late goal with 26 seconds to play. 
 
Matt Delmonico led the Griffins with 3 goals and 5 assists.  Dylan Lefebvre added 3 goals and an assist and James Delaney finished with 3 goals.  Chris Ilse made 10 saves in net.
