Griffins Split Another Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Griffin softball team could be known as the split squad as they split their third straight WVIAC doubleheader.  SHU dropped an 8-2 decision to West Liberty in the first game before rallying for a 7-5 victory in game two.  The Griffins are now 5-9 overall and 3-3 in WVIAC play.

Seton Hill took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one.  After 1 out, Dani Treaster singled and moved to second on an error.  Treaster scored when Brandi Piccolino singled.  Christine Henderson, who was hit by a pitch, scored on an error to make the score 2-0.  West Liberty scored a single run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-2 lead.  The Toppers put the game away with 5 runs in the fifth.  Brandi Piccolino was the lone Griffin with 2 hits in game one.

West Liberty jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning in game two.  The Griffins got three back in the top half of the second.  SHU used two WLU errors, a walk and hit batter to score the three runs.  Brandi Piccolino gave the Griffins a 5-4 lead with a two run homer in the third inning.  WLU tied the score at five in the fourth, thanks to a Griffin error.  The Griffins took the lead for good in the fifth.  After 1 out, Beth Anne Swartzwelder and Christine Henderson singled.  Piccolino singled to score Swartzwelder and give the Griffins a 6-5 lead.  Kaitlyn Kutchman singled to load the bases and Felicia Domasky was hit by a pitch to force in a run.  Hayley Morgan earned the win in relief.  She pitched the final 6 2/3 innings.  She gave up 1 unearned run on 4 hits.  Piccolino went 2-3 and drove in three.

The Griffins are scheduled to host Indiana (PA) on Tuesday and Ohio Valley on Wednesday.
