Griffins Rally for Split with Charleston

Seton Hill returned to the field on Sunday afternoon when they hosted the University of Charleston in a WVIAC doubleheader.  Charleston took game one of the doubleheader by a 6-1 score.  Seton Hill rallied for a 4-2 victory in game two.  Seton Hill improves to 12-16 overall and 11-9 in WVIAC play.    
 
Charleston jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a Griffin error.  Charleston added to their lead with another run in the second to extend the lead to 3-0.  A leadoff homer in the third made the score 4-0.  The Griffins answered with one in their half of the third.  Alex Alicea led off with a double to right center field.  After two outs, Taylor Swatsworth singled in Alicea to cut the lead to 4-1.  Charleston got that run right back in the top of the fourth.  UC scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 6-1.        
 
Game two started out as a pitcher's dual between the Griffins Hayley Morgan and UC's Morgan Aguirre as the game was scoreless thru the first three innings.  Seton Hill finally broke thru in the fourth.  Taylor Swatsworth led off with a single.  She moved to second on a sac bunt from Dani Treaster and scored on a single from Christine Henderson that gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  Charleston took a 2-1 lead with a two run homer in the top of the sixth. 
 
Seton Hill answered in their half of the sixth.  Morgan led off with a single.  Swatsworth followed with her third single of the game to put runners on first and second.  Treaster loaded the bases with a bunt single.  Henderson hit a sac fly that scored Morgan and Swatsworth scored on an error on the play to give the Griffins a 3-2 lead.  Treaster then scored on a wild pitch that increased the lead to 4-2.   
 
Hayley Morgan earned the victory in the circle.  She gave up 2 runs on 4 hits.  Taylor Swatsworth led the Griffins with 3 hits.  Dani Treaster added two hits.
 
The Griffins will travel to Fairmont State on Tuesday.
