Seton Hill hosted WV State in a WVIAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. WV State cruised to a 16-1, 5 inning victory in game one. State broke 5-5 tie and completed the sweep with a 13-5 victory. SHU falls to 11-15 overall and 10-8 in WVIAC play.
WV State jumped on the Griffins for three runs in the top of the first to take a quick 3-0 lead. State added two more in the second to extend the lead to 5-0. State added 7 runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach at 12-0. State hit two two run homer in the fifth to extend the lead to 16-0. Seton Hill got on the scoreboard in the fifth. After one out, Alex Alicea singled. She scored on a
Taylor Swatsworth single with two outs.
WV State again jumped on the Griffins for runs in the top of the first. State got a two out, 2 RBI single to take a 2-0 lead. SHU got a run back in the bottom of the first.
Taylor Swatsworth singled, moved to third and scored on a
Christine Henderson RBI single. Seton Hill tied the score at two with a leadoff homer by Beth Anne Swartzwelder in the second.
WV State used two Griffin errors to score 3 runs and take a 5-2 lead in the top of the third. SHU tied the game at five in the home half of the third. Henderson led off with a single.
Brandi Piccolino singled to put runners on first and third. A wild pitch scored Henderson and
Kaitlyn Kutchman doubled in Piccolino to cut the lead to 5-4. Swartzwelder tied the score at five with a double. WV State retook the lead with 4 runs in the top of the fourth. They added 3 more in the sixth for a 12-5 lead.
Seton Hill will host Charleston on Sunday afternoon.
