Griffins Earn Double Header Victory over Bluefield State

On Saturday afternoon the Griffins hosted Bluefield State College in a double header WVIAC conference contest. In game one the Griffins were up by eight runs after six innings of play ending the game early and earning the 9-1 victory.  In game two Seton Hill continued to make connections with the bat leading to an 8-0 win in the fifth inning.
 
In the first inning of game one both teams came up empty handed at the plate. Bluefield State remained hitless in the second inning while the Griffins brought their bats. Kaitlyn Kutchman got things started with a double. Beth Anne Swartzwelder bunted landing safely at first and advancing Kutchman to third base. Felicia Domasky was then walked to load the bases. Alexandria Alicea hit a long double to centerfield scoring all three runs and putting her in scoring position. Dani Treaster put the ball in play to score Alicea to make it a 4-0 contest. In the third inning Bluefield State was able to score a run to make it a 4-1 game. Bluefield state did not manage to string anything together in the fourth. Alex Alicea and Hayley Morgan got things started in the fourth for Seton Hill each hitting singles. Dani Treaster hit a single forcing the out at third leaving runners on second and first base. Taylor Swatsworth hit a hard line drive down the third base line scoring a run and putting runners on second and third. Christine Henderson singled scoring 2 runs. Brandi Piccolino then singled scoring Henderson and giving the Griffins a 7-1 advantage. There was no action from either team in the fifth inning. The Griffins scored 2 runs off a fielder's choice in the sixth inning to give them a 8-point lead ending the game with a 9-1 Griffin victory.
 
In game two Bluefield continued to struggle at the plate. In the first inning for the Griffins Dani Treaster made it to first on a swinging bunt. Treaster then advanced to second base of a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Swatsworth. Christine Henderson singled to right field scoring Treaster giving them a 1-0 advantage. Brandi Piccolino was then walked putting runners on first and second.  Beth Anne Swartzwelder singled to centerfield scoring a run making it a 2-0 contest. In the second and third innings Bluefield state remained scoreless. The Griffins scored 5 runs off of 6 hits in the second inning but came up empty in the third going into the fourth inning with a commanding 7-0 lead. In the fourth for the Griffins Kaitlyn Kutchman singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Beth Anne Swartzwelder also singled scoring Kutchman increasing their advantage 8-0. Bluefield State couldn't put anyone on base once again in the fifth inning ending the game and giving Seton Hill the 8-0 game two win.
 
With the wins Seton Hill now improves to 9-13 overall and 8-6 in WVIAC conference play. The Griffins will host Concord University on Sunday for another conference double header starting at 12:00PM.
