Swatsworth's Bomb Gives Griffins Split with Ohio Valley

Taylor Swatsworth's three run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning allowed the Griffins to split a doubleheader with Ohio Valley on Wednesday afternoon.  Ohio Valley took game one by a 5-0 score before Swatsworth's heroics turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead.   The Griffins took game two by a 4-2 margin.  Seton Hill is now 6-12 overall and 5-5 in WVIAC play. 
 
Ohio Valley scored two runs in the top of the first of game one to take a quick 2-0 lead.  OVU added two more in the second, thanks to two Griffin errors.  The Griffins could not crack the scoreboard and OVU made it 5-0 in the seventh after a lightning delay.  Five different Griffins had 1 hit in the loss. 
 
Ohio Valley took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game two. The Griffins finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth.  After two outs, Hayley Morgan reached on an error.  Dani Treaster followed with a single to left.  Taylor Swatsworth then stepped up to the plate and sent a 3-1 pitch deep over the left center field fence to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead.  OVU got one run back in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2.  SHU got that run right back in their half of the sixth.  Brandi Piccolino singled and moved to second on a sac bunt from Christine Henderson.   Beth Anne Swartzwelder then singled in Piccolino to make it 4-2.
 
Dani Treaster led the Griffins with 3 hits in game two.  Beth Anne Swartzwelder added 2 hits.  Christine Henderson earned the complete game win in the circle.  She gave up 2 runs on 4 hits.
 
The Griffins will return to action on Thursday when they travel to WV Wesleyan.
