Griffins Come Up Short at Home 8-6

On Thursday afternoon Seton Hill hosted the Lakers of Mercyhurst University. The Griffins late run at the Lakers wasn't enough leading to a 8-6 Griffin defeat.
 
Seton Hill started out strong scoring just .27 seconds into play with a goal from Emma Simmers. Three minutes later Morgan Cain found the back of the net for the Griffins taking a 2-0 lead over the Lakers at the 3:51 mark. The Lakers retaliated scoring the next four goals to snatch the lead 4-2 with 12 minutes remaining in the half. Rachel Hilbert managed to score with 1:50 left on the clock to close the gap on the Lakers 4-3. However, Rebecca Himes then scored her fourth goal for the Lakers a minute later to extend the Mercyhurst advantage back to two 5-3. With the final seconds winding down Morgan Cain put one past the keeper to send the Griffins into halftime down 5-4.
 
In second half action within the first 10 minutes of play the Lakers were able to net another two goals increasing their lead over the Griffins 7-4 at the 39:45 mark. Play continued to go back and forth until the last nine minutes. With 9:07 on the Clock Cain scored her third goal of the day for Seton Hill. Followed by an Emily Fagan goal assisted by Cain to make it a 7-6 contest with 1:43 remaining. The Griffins had a couple good looks, but could not put the tying goal past the keeper. With .2 seconds remaining the Lakers squeezed in one more goal to make the final score 8-6.
 
Morgan Cain led the Griffin offense scoring 3 goals and earning 1 assist.  Emma Simmers, Emily Fagan, and Rachel Hilbert all added 1 goal. With the loss the Seton Hill now stand at 1-1 overall. The Griffins will be back in action on March 9th when they travel to Shippensburg for a game at 2:00 PM.
