The Griffin softball team opened up WVIAC play with a doubleheader at Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon. Seton Hill took game one by a 3-1 score before dropping the second game by a 6-4 score. SHU falls to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in WVIAC play.
Seton Hill jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Brandi Piccolino reached on an error with two outs and then scored when
Felicia Domasky homered to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead. Davis & Elkins answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half. SHU got that run right back in the top of the third. After one out,
Taylor Swatsworth tripled. She scored on a sacrifice fly from
Dani Treaster.
Christine Henderson earned the win in the circle. She went 4 1/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits and struck out 8.
Hayley Morgan picked up the save, throwing the final 2 2/3 innings.
The Griffins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game two as well. In the SHU second, Piccolino doubled and Beth Anne Swartzwelder walked.
Kaitlyn Kutchman then drove in Piccolino with a single. Swatsworth then doubled in Swartzwelder. D&E took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second. SHU took a 4-3 lead in the fourth. After two outs, Alex Alicia singled and stole second. She scored when Swatsworth reached on an error. Treaster then singled in Swatsworth. D&E took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Christine Henderson each had two hits for the Griffins.
SHU is scheduled to travel to Gannon on Wednesday.
