On Saturday afternoon the women's lacrosse team hosted the Tigers of Holy Family University in the season home opener. The Griffins played through the cold weather conditions and earned an 11-6 victory over the Tigers.
The Griffins jumped out to a quick lead scoring five minutes into play with a goal from
Rachel Hilbert. The Tigers answered back with a goal a couple minutes later tying the game 1-1 at the 9:46 mark. Hilbert found the back of the net again and
Morgan Cain fired one past the keeper to increase the Seton Hill lead 3-1 with 9:43 remaining in the half. The Tigers retaliated with another goal to close the gap on the Griffins 3-2. However, the Griffins managed to score 2 more goals to increase their advantage 5-2 going into halftime.
Holy Family tried to make a comeback as they scored the first goal of the second half. The Griffins then entered an offensive spurt scoring 2 goals from
Emma Simmers and
Emily Fagan making it a 7-3 contest with 24:09 left on the clock. The Tigers managed to outscore the Griffins 3-1 during the next 12 minutes of action to bring the game within reach 8-6 at the 11:03 mark. Seton Hill maintained composure and dominated play during the end of the game scoring 3 more goals and clinching the 11-6 victory.
Rachel Hilbert led the Griffins offense with 3 goals and 2 assists.
Emily Fagan added 3 goals while
Morgan Cain recorded 2 goals.
Renee Kania,
Alessandra Nicholas, and
Emma Simmers all added 1 goal to win. The Griffins now stand at 1-0 overall. Seton Hill will host Mercyhurst next on March 7
th, at 4:00PM
