The Griffin men's lacrosse team opened a new era in their program's history as they began ECAC play on Tuesday evening. Seton Hill traveled to Bethany, WV to take on Wheeling Jesuit in the team's first ECAC game. Seton Hill jumped out to a 7-2 halftime lead and never looked back, cruising to a 19-7 victory.
Seton Hill scored the first goal of the contest when
Dylan Lefebvre scored off a feed from
Matt Delmonico.
Dylan Gelven then gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead. Delmonico made it 3-1 with a goal with 1:45 to play in the first quarter.
James Delaney closed out the first quarter scoring and gave SHU a 4-1 lead after one.
Delaney upped the lead to 5-1 early in the second quarter. Gelvin recorded his second goal with an assist from
Kevin Cala. Cala scored unassisted with 1:06 before the half and SHU entered the locker room with a 7-2 lead.
Delmonico increased the lead to 8-2 with an early second half goal. SHU continued to score as Lefebvre and Delmonico each scored two more goals to push the lead to 12-2. Seton Hill outscored Wheeling 7-5 down the stretch for the 19-7 victory.
The Griffins will jump out of ECAC play on Saturday and travel to play former ECC foe NYIT.
