The Griffin women never trailed in defeating Shepherd at home on Thursday evening by the score of 70-65. The game was tied twice but the Griffins held the lead throughout the rest of the contest. Seton Hill improves to 14-11 overall and 11-8 in WVIAC play. The Griffins now sit in sixth place in the WVIAC standings.
Three pointers from
Tiara Stossel and
Katie Gattuso gave the Griffins a quick 6-2 lead. They were able to extend that lead to 10-3 after a layup from
Meghan Mastroianni with 15:43 to play. Shepherd cut the lead to three before the Griffins went on an 11-4 run to take a 22-12 lead with 11 minutes to play.
Paige Alviani hit two threes during the run. Shepherd answered with a 10-0 run in four minutes to tie the score at 22. The Griffins were able to push the lead back to 6 at 30-24 but a 6-0 Ram run tied the score at 30 with 2:15 to play. A three point play from Gattuso and threes from Alviani and Stossel gave SHU a 39-33 halftime lead.
Shepherd was able to trim the Griffins lead to one in just two minutes in the second half. SHU came right back with a 15-4 run to extend the lead to 56-44 with 11:10 to play. The Griffins continued to hold the 12 point lead at the 3:34 mark when they held a 66-54 advantage. Shepherd then scored the next 9 points of the contest to trim the lead to 66-63 with 41 seconds to play. Alviani then calmly sank both ends of a one and one to push the lead to five with 25 seconds to play. After a Shepherd bucket,

Katie Gattuso led the Griffins with a game high 24 points.
Paige Alviani followed with 16 points and she added 8 assists.
Clare Berenato added 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Tiara Stossel was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 12.
