Griffins Drop Home Opener to Shepherd, 42-6

Box Score Shepherd scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters in route to a 42-6 victory over the Griffins in their home opener on Saturday afternoon.  With the loss the Griffins fall to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in WVIAC play,

After the Griffins went three and out on their first drive, Shepherd took a 7-0 lead with a 7 play, 60 yard touchdown drive.  On Shepherd's next drive Darius Turner picked off Bobby Cooper to give the Griffins the ball at their own 38.  SHU was able to get one first down on their next drive but were forced to punt.  Shepherd then took the next drive and went 77 yards on 7 plays to take a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Shepherd extended its lead to 21-0 with a 42 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.  The Rams went up 28-0 with 7:05 left in the first half after a 12 yard touchdown pass.  The Griffins got on the scoreboard on their next drive when Ryan Morris hit Lance Williams with a 29 yard touchdown pass.  The Griffins trailed 28-6 at the half.  Shepherd was able to add two more touchdowns in the third quarter to extend the lead to 42-6.

Shepherd held the Griffin rushing game in check as they held the SHU running backs to 3 yards on 11 carries.  Shepherd outgained the Griffins 461 yards to 193 and had 27 first downs to 11 for the Griffins.  Ryan Morris was 29-46 for 227 yards and 1 TD.  DJ Carter finished with 7 catches for 60 yards.  Josh Falatovich led the Griffins with 13 total tackles.  Tyler Zimmer added 10 including a sack.

Seton Hill will look for their first win next week when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan.
