Volleyball Splits on Opening Day of Fairmont State Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Griffin volleyball team opened up its 2012 season with a split of its games at the Fairmont State Tournament on Friday.  Seton Hill dropped its first match of the afternoon by the score of 3-1 to Point Park.  Point Park took the first set, 27-25.  Seton Hill took the second set 25-22 before dropping the last two sets by the score of 25-21 and 25-15.  SHU rallied and defeated Urbana 3-1 in their second match of the day.  The Griffins took the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-16.  Urbana took the next set 25-23 before the Griffins closed out the match with a 25-17 win. 

Shelby Kyllo led the Griffins with 10 kills in the Point Park match.  Abigail Malsch added 9 kills.  Courtney Field had 17 assists and Lauren Teed led the squad with 22 digs.  Katie Bloomgren added 10 digs and 4 aces.  Corrine Gahagen led the Griffins with 18 kills and 0 errors in 23 attempts in the Urbana win.  Malsch again added 9 kills.  Christina Donahoe finished with 7 kills.  Field finished with 21 assists and Kelsey Profio added 17.  Teed again led the Griffins with 14 digs.

Seton Hill will close out play in the Fairmont State Tournament with matches against Edinboro and King College on Saturday.
