Paul O'Brien

Paul O'Brien returns for his second season as the Griffin softball coach in 2014.  He led the Griffins to 13 wins in his first season on the bench.

O’Brien brings 18 years of coaching experience, including a nine-year stretch as a high school head coach during which he compiled a .651 winning percentage through 272 games to the Seton Hill bench. Most recently, he was an assistant coach at Shippensburg University.

O’Brien started his coaching career at St Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, Maryland where he compiled a 139-73 record during his six seasons there. In 2008, O'Brien completed his second year at the helm of the program at Archbishop Spalding High School and guided the team to the IAAM A Conference Championship. For his efforts, he was named the 2008 Coach of the Year by the Baltimore Sun and by Digital Sports. He finished his two-year stint at Spalding with a 32-6 record.

During his three seasons at Shippensburg, the Raiders won 63 games and advanced to the NCAA Regionals during the 2011 season. O’Brien also organized and ran the Shippensburg Summer Softball Camps.

O'Brien is a well-respected ASA/ASE certified coach in the Maryland region and has also been an integral instructor with numerous softball camps for the last 15 years. Among the travel teams he has coached include the Maryland Chill and the Free State Fury.

O'Brien has been a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) since 1999. He graduated from Borromeo College (Ohio) in 1987.
