Connor Laverty

Connor Laverty enters his second season as an assistant men's basketball coach for the Griffins in 2023-24.

In his first season on the hill, the Griffins saw a drastic improvement on and off the court.  The team finished with 16 wins, 13 more than the previous season and went 11-11 in the PSAC West, an eight game improvement over the previous season.  SHU also qualified for the PSAC Tournament for the first time in three seasons.

Laverty spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Widener.  In his first season at Widener, Laverty helped the team to an appearance in the MAC Semifinals.  The team also defeated a top ten team in Swarthmore.  Connor also helped to recruit five embers of the incoming class at Widener.

As a senior at Widener, Laverty was named the 2019-20 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year and earned a D3hoops.com All-Region nod for a season in which he averaged a team-high 14.1 points per game and ranked third in the conference in three-point percentage at 45.4. He helped guide Widener to a 19-6 regular season record and clinched the number one seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship with a game-winning shot against Arcadia. The 2020 Widener Male Athlete of the Year ended his career for the Blue and Gold with 1,000 points and two All-Conference berths as well as two appearances on the MAC Academic Honor Roll.

After graduating, Laverty worked as a head coach for East Coast Power Basketball’s 16U and 13U teams. He most recently served as an assistant site director for Zero Gravity Basketball where he helped coordinate hundreds of local tournaments across the country.

The Ocean City, N.J. native earned his B.A. in history from Widener in 2020.
