Peggy Fillinger returns to Seton Hill University for her second stint as Head Athletic Trainer. She was here for the first season of Seton Hill Football, a position she held for 4 years. A well respected member of the Athletic Training community, Fillinger has been a member in both the National Athletic Training Association and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Association for 30 years. Prior to her time at Seton Hill University, she was a clinical athletic trainer at Excela Health Orthopedic and Sports Medicine. Fillinger helped out both in the clinic assessing patients and ordering tests and setting up paperwork for surgical procedures, she also helped out in the operating room assisting orthopedic surgeons. Fillinger has been described as a dedicated medical professional who is passionate about the health and welfare of every athlete that walks into her athletic training room. Day after day she is found in the training room, athletic fields or researching ways to allow her athletes to return to their respected sports as quickly as safely as possible. Here at Seton Hill she heads up a staff of four certified athletic trainers. Fillinger is very proud of the staff that has been assembled here and looks forward to retaining the staff and providing the best possible medical care for all the athletes here at the university.
Prior to Seton Hill University, Fillinger held the position of Head Athletic Trainer at Bethany College. A lone athletic Trainer which covered 22 varsity sports, she was an assistant Professor of Physical Education and Sport Studies. Teaching in the athletic and Biology departments, a position she was very passionate about. During her time at Bethany, she also was a member of the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department. Fillinger was a NREMT-P and was a certified level 2 firefighter for the department. Fillinger spent endless hours running both fire and EMS calls for the entire community of Brooke County. During her tenure at Bethany College, Fillinger was named West Virginia” Hero of the Year Award” for saving the life of a Bethany College football player. Fillinger was recognized at the Capitol Building located in Charleston West Virginia during a special session honoring hero’s.
Fillinger received her undergraduate degree in Education and Biology from Bethany College and went on for her masters’ degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia University. Peggy also holds certifications in the National Board of Certification in Orthopedic Technician and First Assist. She has her card Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer.
Peggy spends her free time with her daughter Kady, her husband Jim, Grandson, Jackson and her 2 fur babies, Sidney and Geno. New York Yankee baseball and Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey are things that Peggy enjoys when she is not attending to the athletes of Seton Hill University.
