The postseason awards continue to fly in for the Seton Hill baseball program as they are having another very successful season. On Friday afternoon, the team picked up honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
The Griffins won two of the three major awards from the NCBWA for the Atlantic Region and also added five first team and one second team All Region selection.
Sophomore third baseman
Brady McGuire was named the Regional Player of the Year while Coach Marizzaldi earned Regional Coach of the Year. McGuire was a first team selection at third base. Junior
Jakob Haynes was a first team selection at catcher. Senior
Jack Whalen was a first team selection in the outfield. Sophomore
Sean Williams and junior
Mark Wechtenhiser were first team selections as a starter. Junior
Owen Henne was a second team selection at shortstop. Henne is now a two time All Region selection.
McGuire leads the PSAC and the Griffins with a .454 average. He also led the Griffins with 53 RBI which was second in the PSAC. Brady added 47 runs scored, 8 doubles, a triple, 6 homers and 29 stolen bases in just 43 games played. Haynes led the Griffins and the PSAC with 15 home runs. He hit .340 on the season. Jakob added 47 runs scored, 8 doubles, 1 triple and 52 RBI. Whalen led the Griffins in many offensive categories. He led SHU with 69 hits, 64 runs scored, 12 doubles, 3 triples and 44 stolen bases. Jack led the PSAC in runs scored and stolen bases. He added 4 homers and 32 RBI. is 10-2 on the season with a 3.29 ERA. He has worked 65.2 innings while allowing 55 hits and opponents to hit just .231 off him. Sean has 52 strikeouts and threw the second no hitter in Seton Hill history this season, Wechtenhiser is 8-1 on the season with a 2.81 ERA. He has worked 57.2 innings and allowed 37 hits with opponents hitting just .184 off him. Mark has 63 strikeouts on the season.
Marizzaldi has led the Griffins to the NCAA Tournament for the 15th time. The team won 41 games in the regular season, a new program record. Coach Marizzaldi also earned his 800th career win this season.
