Baseball Sweeps Slippery Rock to Open PSAC West Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Seton Hill began PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Slippery Rock for a conference doubleheader.    

The Griffins took game one by a 12-6 score.  SHU completed the sweep with a 10-7 win in game two.  The Griffins are now 14-5 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC West.  

SHU scored five times in the second inning of game one.  Brady Stone singled to lead off the inning.  Nate Dorinsky followed with a single.  Mason Metz doubled to score Stone.  Gage Wheaton added an RBI single to make it 2-0.  Brady McGuire homered to give SHU a 5-0 lead.  

The Rock got two runs back in the fourth to cut the SHU lead to 5-2.  SHU scored three times in the fifth.  With one out, Owen Henne singled.  Jakob Haynes doubled and Stone reached on a fielders choice to load the bases.  Henne scored on a RBI groundout from Dorinsky.  Metz singled in a run and another scored on an error.  SHU added one more in the sixth on a RBI sacrifice fly from McGuire.  Dorinsky and Austyn Winkleblech had RBI singles and McGuire drew a bases loaded walk to give SHU a 12-2 lead after the top of the seventh.  

Metz led the Griffins with 3 hits and 2 RBI. Brady McGuire added 2 hits including a HR and 5 RBI. Owen Henne, Jakob Haynes and Nate Dorinsky each added two hits. Luke Deschenes earned the win.

The Rock took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of game two.  SHU responded with two runs in their half of the third.  With one out, Metz singled and scored on a Gage Wheaton homer.  

The Griffins then scored seven times in the top of the fourth.  Henne singled, Colin Ahr walked and Haynes was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.  Stone singled to drive in two.  Dorinsky and Metz each had RBI singles as SHU took a 6-2 lead.  McGuire singled in two more and Henne added an RBI single as the Griffins led 9-2.  Ahr added an RBI single in the sixth to increase the Griffin lead to 10-2.  

McGuire, Henne, Ahr, Dorinsky and Metz each had two hits in the win.  Mark Wechtenhiser earned the win.  He went 5.2 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits while striking out three.  Christian Zilli got the final two outs to earn the save.  

The Griffins will host Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon to close out the four game PSAC West set.
