Griffins to Open NCAA Atlantic Regional Against Fayetteville State

For the second straight season, the Griffins return to NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional play when the Atlantic Regional begins on Friday evening in Indiana.  SHU will take part in the NCAA Atlantic Regional hosted by IUP in the KCAC as the number four seed in the eight team regional.  Seton Hill will open up play on Friday evening at 7:30 PM when they meet the fifth seed in the regional Fayetteville State.  Seton Hill is 21-8 on the season and earned an at large bid.  Fayetteville State who is 21-5 on the season earned an at large bid as well.  The winner of the SHU/FSU battle will play the winner of the #1 seed IUP and #8 seed Charleston (WV) quarterfinal in Saturday's Atlantic Regional semifinal at 7:30 PM.  

The other first round matchups include second seed Gannon (28-4) taking on seventh seed Edinboro (19-13).  Third seed and CIAA Champion Winston Salem State (26-3) will take on sixth seed Glenville State (24-6) in the other quarterfinal.  

The Atlantic Regional final will be played at 7 PM on Monday evening.  

Seton Hill played three of the seven other teams in the regional this season.  The Griffins were 0-2 vs IUP, 1-1 vs Edinboro and were 0-3 vs Gannon.  

This is the third NCAA Tournament appearance for the Griffins.  SHU played in the 2009-10 NCAA Atlantic Regional at Gannon.  The Griffins won their opening round game over Fayetteville State before falling to Gannon who advanced to the NCAA FInal Four that season.  Last season, the Griffins defeated Kutztown in the first round before falling to Gannon in the semifinals.  

IUP has set up a NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship Webpage with all the info you need for the tournament.   Live stats will be available through the IUP's stat broadcast page.  Tickets are available thru the KCAC Ticket Office.  One ticket is good for all the games on any given day.   

The winner of the regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight to be held at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, PA on March 24-28.  

This is the second meeting between the Griffins and Fayetteville State in the NCAA Tournament.  SHU defeated the Broncos 73-64 in 2010 in the NCAA Atlantic Regional hosted by Gannon in Erie.  Jordan Burkes led the Griffins with 19 points.  Katie Lintner added 16 points and Orit Farchi finished with 13.
