Baseball Sweeps Jamestown to Open Florida Trip

Seton Hill opened their Florida Spring Break trip with a doubleheader against the University of Jamestown on Sunday afternoon in Davenport, FL.  

The Griffins opened with a 4-2 win over Jamestown and completed the sweep with a 16-9 win in game two.  SHU is now 7-1 on the season.  

SHU took a lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one.  Jack Whalen drew a walk and stole second.  Colin Ahr walked and Jakob Haynes was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Whalen later scored on a throwing error as SHU took a 1-0 lead.  

The Griffins added a second run in the second.  With one out, Nate Simon reached on an error.  He moved to second on a passed ball and later scored after stealing third thanks to a throwing error.  SHU added another run in the fifth.  Haynes and Owen Mandler singled to put runners on first and third.  Mason Metz followed with an RBI single to give SHU a 3-0 lead.  

Seton Hill added an insurance run in the sixth.  With two outs, Whalen was hit by a pitch and stole second.  He scored on a throwing error.

Sean Williams earned the win.  He went 5 innings and allowed just two hits while striking out 6.  

Jamestown took a 4-0 lead over the Griffins in the first inning of game two.  SHU got a run back in the second after an Owen Mandler leadoff single.  Mandler scored on a Brady Stone RBI single.  

The Griffins took the lead in the third with four runs after two outs.  Gage Wheaton hit a solo homer with two outs and later in the inning, Nate Dorinsky cleared the bases with a three RBI double.  Ahr knocked in Whalen, who doubled, with a single in the fourth as SHU took a 6-4 lead.  

SHU then scored seven times in the sixth.  Dorinsky had an RBI single.  Heath Fetchik was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Whalen added an RBI single while Wheaton knocked in two with a single.  

Stone added a run with a sacrifice fly and Simon knocked in two with a double in the seventh.  

Stone had three hits to lead the offense.  Whalen, Wheaton, Owen Mandler and Dorinsky each had 2 hits.  Dorinsky drove in 4 and Wheaton 3.  

The Griffins will take on Northwood on Monday morning in Winter Haven.
