Box Score Seton Hill made the short trip to Johnstown for a PSAC West matchup with Pitt Johnstown on Wednesday evening.
The Griffins used a huge third quarter as they defeated the Mountain Cats 86-70. SHU is now 14-4 overall and 10-2 in the PSAC.
SHU took a 10-6 lead on a three point play from
Abby Mankins with 5:31 left in the first quarter. Pitt Johnstown took a 15-14 lead before a three point play from
Helene Cowan put the Griffins back in front 17-15 with 1:33 left. The game was tied at 17 at the end of the first quarter.
Seton Hill opened the second quarter by scoring the first ten points of the quarter as they took a 27-17 lead.
Mia Kalich scored six of the ten points for the Griffins. Pitt Johnstown cut the lead to four before the Griffins pushed the lead back to eight at 35-27 at the halftime break.
The third quarter belonged to the Griffins as they were able to push their advantage to 17 points. UPJ opened the quarter with a three point play before a 7-1 SHU run pushed the Griffins lead to 42-31 with 7:19 left in the quarter. A three point play from
Helene Cowan and a basket from Kalich gave SHU a 47-33 lead midway thru the quarter. Back to back threes from
Hallie Cowan and a
Hailee Ford layup gave the Griffins a 20 point advantage at 58-38 with 3:39 to play. The Griffins led 62-45 after three quarters of play.
The Mountain Cats used eight free throws to trim the Griffin lead to 68-55 with 5:26 to play. The Griffins put the game away with an 8-0 run, the final six coming from
Hallie Cowan as SHU took a 76-55 lead with 4:05 to play.
Helene Cowan led the Griffins with 25 points.
Hallie Cowan added 21 points. Kalich posted another double double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Griffins will host Indiana (PA) on Saturday afternoon as they continue PSAC West action.
