Browner Named L.P. Hill Unity in Sports Award Winner

1/19/2026 2:30:00 PM

Jasmine Browner, coordinator of Student Services, was named as the L.P. Hill Unity in Sports Award honorees for the 2025-26 season.

The award recognizes the contributions of an individual or group on each member campus that, through intercollegiate athletics, epitomizes the promise of Unity, Equity, and Access For All.

The award is named after Leslie Pinckney Hill, the first President of Cheyney State Teacher's College. From 1913 to 1950, he was the Principal of the Institute for Colored Youth in Philadelphia and oversaw its establishment as Cheyney State Teachers College.  The Phi Beta Kappa, Harvard-educated son of a former slave taught at Tuskegee Institute and was a renowned educator, writer, poet, and community leader.

In 1927, a year after the first documents that created the Pennsylvania State Normal School Athletic Association, Mr. Hill argued for the inclusion of Cheyney in the Associations bylaws which had been left out in the initial drafting.  The Board of Principals immediately rectified this error, and all 14 state-owned institutions were then included in the Association's initial governing documents.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its inaugural class of L.P. Hill Unity in Sports Award honorees on Monday afternoon.

Jasmine Browner exemplifies the spirit of the L.P. Hill Unity through Sport Award by advancing unity, equity, and access for student-athletes and the broader campus community with both passion and measurable impact. As Coordinator of Student Services in the Global and Cultural Connections Office, she supports international and multicultural students, co-advises the Black Student Union and L.I.F.T., and creates programming that amplifies underrepresented voices across campus. Her work strengthens belonging for student-athletes by building mentoring relationships, supporting identity development, and helping teams engage meaningfully with diverse student groups. From hosting "Small Talks" that spark dialogue on social topics to organizing meals centered on cultural dishes and traditions, Jasmine works tirelessly to make all students feel seen, valued, and most importantly, celebrated. Her efforts create an environment where studentathletes are recognized for who they are as people, not only for their sport.

An alumna who served as BSU President, cheerleader, Resident Assistant, and Jimmerson Award recipient at Seton Hill, Jasmine carries that same commitment into her professional role, embodying leadership that bridges students from all corners of the world. She collaborates with coaches, student-leaders, and campus partners to expand access to resources, elevate visibility for multicultural initiatives, and empower students to lead change themselves.

Her influence extends beyond campus. Jasmine was honored with the YMCA's 2025 Emerging Young Leader Award for her significant contributions to the community, reflecting her dedication to interrupting inequity and championing racial justice, social equity, and the empowerment of women and girls. Her pursuit of an MBA in Leadership and Management while working full time further demonstrates her commitment to growth, excellence, and service. Jasmine's impact is visible in the inclusive partnerships she builds, the student-athletes she mentors, and the growing engagement with cultural programming that shapes our campus culture. She stands out not only for what she accomplishes, but for how she inspires others, making her an exceptional representative of unity in sport and the powerful legacy of L.P. Hill.
